About the Test

What blood tests do you offer?

We offer 6 blood test panels: Essential (£129, 17 markers), Performance (£149, 16 markers), Heart Health (£89, 13 markers), Hormone Male (£119, 9 markers), Hormone Female (£119, 5 markers), and Nutrition (£99, 9 markers). Each panel targets different aspects of your health. View all panels at helvy.co.uk/programme.

How is this different from a GP blood test?

Your GP typically tests 10-15 markers using ranges designed to detect disease. We test up to 50+ markers using performance-optimised ranges from sports medicine research. We don't just tell you if you're sick — we tell you how to feel your best. Plus, there's no waiting for a GP appointment — you test at home and get results in 5 days.

Who analyses the blood samples?

All samples are analysed at UKAS-accredited NHS laboratories — the same laboratories that process your GP's blood tests. Results are then reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor before being released to you.

Is a finger-prick test as accurate as a venous blood draw?

For the biomarkers we test, yes. Modern dried blood spot and capillary collection methods used with finger-prick kits have been validated against venous blood draws for accuracy. UKAS accreditation ensures our laboratory meets the same quality standards as NHS labs.

Taking the Test

Does the blood test hurt?

It's a simple finger-prick using a spring-loaded lancet — takes about 2 minutes at home. Most people say it's much easier than expected. There are no needles or syringes — just a quick prick and a small blood sample collected in a tube.

When should I take my blood test?

First thing in the morning, ideally fasted (water only for 8-12 hours). Testosterone levels peak in the morning and decline through the day, so morning collection gives the most accurate baseline. Avoid testing the day after heavy exercise — it can temporarily elevate liver enzymes and inflammation markers.

What if I can't get enough blood?

Warm your hands under hot water for 2 minutes before testing — this increases blood flow significantly. Hold your hand below your heart and gently massage from your palm towards the fingertip. If you still have trouble, our kit includes spare lancets to try a different finger.

Results & Recommendations

How long do results take?

Typically 5 working days from when the lab receives your sample. You'll get an email notification when your results are ready. Results include clear explanations of every marker in plain English — not just a spreadsheet of numbers.

What if my results show something concerning?

Every result is reviewed by a GMC-registered doctor. If any marker requires medical attention, we'll flag it clearly and recommend you speak to your GP. We provide the clinical context your GP needs. For urgent findings, we'll contact you directly.

What does 'optimal' vs 'in range' mean?

NHS reference ranges tell you if you're likely free from disease — they're designed to catch illness. Our optimal ranges, based on sports medicine and longevity research, tell you where you'd function best. You can be 'in range' but far from optimal — which is why you might feel tired, foggy, or sluggish despite your GP saying everything is 'normal'.

Do you recommend supplements?

Only if your blood test shows something is genuinely low or suboptimal. We never recommend supplements you don't need. If your levels are fine, we'll tell you to save your money. Every recommendation is based on what your blood actually shows — not guesswork.

Ordering & Delivery

How long does delivery take?

1-2 working days via Royal Mail to any UK address. The kit includes everything you need — lancets, collection tube, alcohol wipes, instructions, and a prepaid return envelope.

Do you deliver outside the UK?

Currently we only deliver within the UK (England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland). Our laboratory and clinical review processes are set up for the UK healthcare system.

Can I buy a test as a gift?

Yes — just enter the recipient's delivery address at checkout. The kit will be sent directly to them with instructions on how to activate and complete the test.

Privacy & Data

Is my health data secure?

Yes. We process health data under UK GDPR as Special Category Data, with the highest level of protection. All data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We never share your individual health data with third parties. Your blood test results are stored securely and only accessible to you and the reviewing doctor.

Will my results be shared with my GP or employer?

No. Your results are private and only shared with you. We never send results to your GP, employer, or insurance company unless you explicitly ask us to. If we flag something that needs medical attention, we recommend you share the results with your GP — but the choice is yours.
